My wife told me that Ben Stiller’s movie, Night at the Museum, is funny. Now, if you haven’t seen that movie, you’re in good company. I still have to find time to watch it, although it may take some time. As far as I can recall, the last movie that got me excited to go to the mall was Lord of the Rings. What I can say, I hate spending time in malls, and in this era where stand-alone moviehouses are simply relics of the past (with the remaining few becoming the venue of worldly thrills), it means that I rarely go out, relax and watch movies.
When my wife watched Night at the Museum at SM-North EDSA, she brought, as usual, her shoulder bag. She told me she was laughing watching the movie, but her mood shifted to horror when she realized that her purse and cellphone were gone.
Cash, cards and IDs. Poof! Gone.
She was using her cellphone before she entered the moviehouse and discovered – before the movie was over- that her cellphone was gone. She said she was tempted to order a lockdown, but realized that the SM management would not probably recognize such procedure regularly implemented by the CTU of Jack Bauer. All she could do was shout at the guard: “Baket ‘nyo pinapalabas ang mga tao, eh pano pa mahanap yung gamit ko!“.
(Speaking of 24, my wife is a certified addict. She disagrees with the “reinvention” of Chloe into a “sophisticated” lady, with her all-black suit, rather than the usual casual style in the first five seasons. She cried when Pres. David Palmer was assassinated. She now finds CSI-Las Vegas, which she used to love, boring. While watching Night at the Museum, she claimed that Stiller’s wife seemed like a close acquaintance…Stiller’s wife is Audrey in 24).
So, off she went to the security department. They didn’t give her any good news. Her wallet and cellphone are history. There was a twist, though. Somebody was also complaining that her bag and laptop were stolen. So, relatively speaking, my wife had a better evening. Here’s the kicker – a man then barged in, looking genuinely concerned, complaining about another lost “item” – his wife. My wife swore that the man’s grief looked genuine. Believe it or not.
Moral of the story? Your guess is as good as mine. =)
