Editors Wanted

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

Let’s have a light moment. I’ve read this email years back and I received it again yesterday. You may have read this, too. This letter, preserved in its original, unedited form, was allegedly found at a certain bar in Manila. Try to read it with feelings. It never ceases to put a smile on my face. (more…)

Revenge of the Beer Belly

Wednesday, August 19th, 2009

I used to chide my married male friends that their bellies are getting bigger. Beer belly, some would say. Of course, it’s a joke, but they say jokes are half-meant. Then I got married and found myself at the other end of the stick. I now get the usual “reminder” about my tummy getting bigger by the year, er, month. (more…)

Surviving Trick Questions

Tuesday, January 20th, 2009

We’ve heard about the riddle of the Sphinx. Legend has it that the Sphinx, a mythical creature that guarded the entrance to the Greek city of Thebes, would ask a riddle before allowing passage to travelers. “Which creature goes on four legs in the morning, on two legs at noon, and upon three at night, and the more legs it has, the weaker it is?” We now know that the answer is “man” (crawl on fours, then walk upright, then aided with cane when old), but those who failed to give the correct answer were devoured by the Sphinx. Scary. (more…)

Mahal ang Magmahal

Tuesday, January 13th, 2009

(more…)

Monday, November 24th, 2008

Marital infidelity in the Philippines is a male phenomenon. That caught your attention, didn’t it? If not, then most probably you’ve always come across infidelity, maybe to an point wherein you think it’s “normal”. In any case, a study quoted by the National Commission on the Role of Filipino Women (NCRFW) pegs the proportion of married men engaging in extramarital sex at 36%. (more…)

Divorce: Should it be Allowed in the Philippines?

Monday, November 17th, 2008

The Catholic Church is alarmed over the increasing number of Filipinos who are filing for annulment. You may have heard that in GMA News today. You may have also heard the strong debate over the reproductive health bill pending in Congress, with the Catholic Church actively opposing the proposed law. (more…)

Men’s Rules

Wednesday, August 6th, 2008

(I’m not the author of this post. I’d like to make that clear not only to show that there’s no claim of authorship, but, more importantly, because my wife may be reading this post. I just received this a while ago through email, without attribution of authorship. I thought maybe it’s good to share the smile with the rest of you. I like Rule No. 1, er, the tenth one from the top.) (more…)

Empty Heart

Friday, August 1st, 2008

“Kumusta na?” This is a question I usually ask my friends, as it is easy to ask and, more importantly, easy to answer. People usually say, “I’m ok” or “Ok naman.” No further explanation is needed because this is more of an introduction, a short line to start the conversation, pretty much like “Hello.” This time, however, the answer made me stop and think.

“Eto, empty,” she answered. (more…)

Speeding up Love with Speed Dating

Sunday, July 27th, 2008

The spark of love could come from the most unlikely moment and situation. Love could blossom in war, in sickness and other seemingly impossible situations. Reality is stranger than fiction, ika nga. But speed dating? (more…)
