Feeling Worse and Christmas Spending

Posted on 28 November 2008 in Work and Money

If you feel that you’re worse off this year, don’t be hard on yourself — you’re not alone. More Filipinos feel that they are worse off now than last year, and, worse (pun intended), a higher percentage thinks most Filipinos are “losers” now compared to a year ago. This is part of the study result of Pulse Asia’s October 2008 Nationwide Survey on Quality of Life (QOL), Comparative State of the National Economy, and American Financial Crisis. Please read the rest of this entry, as well as the informal poll, here.

If we Pinoy Dads are feeling worse than last year, then it’s very much worse indeed because we have families to think about (let me rephrase that, “respective families”, least it be construed as encouraging you-know-what). So, what do we do aside from making money on the side (fondly called “raket”)? Maybe reduce our Christmas expenses.

75% of those polled in the United States say that they are cutting down their shopping budgets for Christmas. They buy less quantity of (or less expensive) gifts, food or other Christmas items that ring the cashier’s bell. This seems logical because the US is the epicenter of today’s world economic crisis. The informal survey here in the Philippines shows that 67.7% said they are reducing their Christmas spending. Please see the entire discussion here.
