There’s so much to write about when one goes through a trip across Ilocos Sur and Ilocos Norte. It’s like going back in history, or seeing the things we’ve read in history school books up front. It’s like being immersed in spectacular sights. The beauty of this destination is not limited to the wide open and smooth country roads, the nice views along the way, or the compelling history of the place and its people. Let’s discuss some places of interest:
Blue Lagoon at Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte – Pagudpud has white sand beaches. Not impressive, you may say. Boracay, Palawan or Bohol has better beaches, with finer white sand and more developed tourism infrastructure. Still, Pagudpud could hold its own. Read more here.
Churches of Ilocos – There are a number of really old churches in Ilocos. Some of these churches are included in the UNESCO’s World Heritage Sites. Read more here.
Bangui Wind Mills – There’s a platform along the highway where you could watch the windmills of Bangui from a distance. Unless you have telephoto lens, you’ll have tiny fans on your sights. Whatever lens you have, however, it’s always better to look at the structure up close and personal. It’s only up close where you can see the full majesty of these 3-bladed humongous monsters. Read more here.
Cape Bojeador lighthouse – I still believe the view from the old Spanish lighthouse in Corregidor is still amazing, but the label “most amazing” now belongs to another lighthouse — the Cape Bojeador lighthouse found in Burgos, Ilocos Norte. Read more here.
Other places of interest: Vigan, Ilocos Sur; Malacanang of the North, Paoay, Ilocos Norte.
