I just remembered that there are two long weekends this coming August, as reflected in the list of National Regular and Special Holidays for 2008 in the Philippines. The declared holidays are: Ninoy Aquino Day (18 August 2008, which means that August 17-18 is a long weekend) and National Heroes Day (25 August 2008, which means that August 23-25 is another long weekend).
For Pinoy Entrepreneurs, this means a respite from working hard or, on the other hand, additional holiday pay for employees working during holidays. For us Pinoy Dads, these long holidays allow us to spend time with our families and, if finances allow, to see different places in the Philippines. There are many choices where to take the kids. Spending quality time with the kids need not be expensive:Go to the park. There are a number of parks, like Luneta or the Baywalk in Manila, where the little ones could be themselves — run around like crazy. If you don’t want the crowd, you could choose other open spaces like the UP Sunken Garden.
Go to museums. Should you decide to go to Luneta, the Museo Pambata is just a stone’s throw away. If you’re in that area, perhaps you’d like to know that the Manila Ocean Park is very near.
Go to the Beach. I thought of suggesting the malls, which is probably a good idea, but the expenses in a mall (so many things to see…and buy) would probably be the same as that of going to the nearest beach. Just pack some food and take the bus.
Perhaps you could give certain suggestions on how to do that. Please use the comment section below.
