In all probability, you’re now used to pink covering Metro Manila. Pink fences, pink urinals, pink walls and more. There’s a new member of the pink family being implemented by the Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA) — the pink line.
As you can see from this poster splattered in the middle of EDSA, the Pink Line is a walkway (“lakaran”). This is supposed to be a pedestrian lane, and I know a few cars towed for having been parked on the Pink Line.
As the poster also shows, the Pink Line is touted as another “MMDA TRAFFIC SOLUTION”. I hope it works, I really do. I hope it’s not just a fad, pretty much like the Yellow Lane. I hope the MMDA will consistently enforce it.
Pilosopong Tasyo would most likely ask: “What’s the use of issuing new rules when they can’t enforce existing rules?” Why not enforce the Yellow Lane? Why not enforce the anti-jaywalking laws? Is the issuance of new rules an excuse for the non-enforcement of existing ones?
Then again, it would be unfair not to give the MMDA the benefit of the doubt. Let’s wait for history to judge whether this “MMDA TRAFFIC SOLUTION” works. Again, I hope it works.
