The search strings, whether in Google, Yahoo! or other search engines, for the past days have been interesting: national holiday, Philippines, Eid’l Fitr, Ramadhan (if you lump all of that searches into one word, it’s “vacation”).
Anyway, I didn’t pay much attention to it because I didn’t expect a holiday in October. Then we received an invitation for a birthday lunch on Wednesday, 1 October, and I thought, “That’s weird”. Holidays are supposed to be on a Monday, which is the policy under Republic Act 9492 (an Act rationalizing the celebration of national holidays). Such curiosity led me to check if October 1 is a holiday.
Well, wadayaknow, October 1 is declared a holiday under Proclamation No. 1625. It’s Eid’l Fitr or the celebration marking the end of Ramadhan. You could also check the reast of the National Regular and Special Holidays for 2008 in the Philippines. Enjoy your vacation.
