On Water and Electricity in Times of Calamity

Posted on 2 October 2009 in Home and Gadgets

We received a text message, stating that — allegedly — MERALCO is shutting down its electric lines this evening, 2 October 2009, purportedly as a precaution against Typhoon Pepeng. I was gravely concerned because this means no electricity for househould needs, it also means no water for us. We had to use a water pump to store water from NAWASA in a tank, then pump it to the household.

This is not true, fortunately. We just heard from the radio quoting sources from MERALCO that they will not switch off power unless there’s an emergency. The text message going around is spreading rumors, they say. Mahirap na nga ang sitwasyon natin, lalo pang dinadagdagan.

Anyway, it’s better not to have electricity than not to have water. But in our case, no electricity means no water. Petty matters, really.
