He is known by many names. So many names, in fact, that it seems his opponents are trying to give him an identity crisis, perhaps in the hope of somewhat dispersing the fury and raw power in, as well as the deadly accuracy of, his fists. Let’s take a look at the many names of Emmanuel “Manny” Pacquaio. Continue reading →
Birthdays are overrated. Although it could be argued that simply because I usually don’t celebrate birthdays, it doesn’t mean it’s overrated. As Ted Failon said in jest, why would I spend tons of money to entertain my family and friends during my birthday? Why can’t they make little contributions to give me a treat? There are a number of reasons why parents bring their children to fun places. Places like Active Fun. One is the genuine desire to allow their children to have fun. Another is to have an excuse to go shopping, with the kids safely tucked in Active Fun. Still another purpose is for a bargaining tool — if you behave I’ll bring you to Active Fun this weekend. Yesterday, my son was playing games in the laptop and, unknown to me, was tinkering with the files in it. He always had a problem double left-clicking with the laptop’s touch pad, so he sometimes go with the right click. I was wondering, after he used the laptop, why there are multiple copies of files on the desktop. It turned out that was the least of my concerns. Continue reading →
There are times when the experience, when basking in the sights and sounds of nature, is too expansive and so there’s a need to break it down into smaller pieces, hoping that the smaller attempts to describe the experience would be reasonably enough. Continue reading →
We don’t appreciate something until it’s gone, the cliche goes. Sappy, yes, but this drives home the point that we often take for granted places of historical importance that are right in our backyard. Take, for instance, Magellan’s Cross, Mactan Shrine and the Basilica del Sto. Niño. I spent four years in Cebu City, yet it’s only when I came back after 13 years that I took time to visit these landmarks. Continue reading →

Let’s have a light moment. I’ve read this email years back and I received it again yesterday. You may have read this, too. This letter, preserved in its original, unedited form, was allegedly found at a certain bar in Manila. Try to read it with feelings. It never ceases to put a smile on my face. Continue reading →
