Sinulog in Cebu: Viva Pit Senor!

Posted on 8 January 2009 in Time Out

A street party erupts every third Sunday of January. The annual Sinulog dance ritual is part of the celebrations to honor of the miraculous Santo Niño. Looking back, it’s quite unfortunate that in more than four years of staying in Cebu, I imbibed the mardi gras spirit only once.

I thought it’s just absurd for Cebuanos and tourists — from other areas of the Philippines and all over the world, to sweat it out under the Cebu sun to catch a glimpse of the Sinulog parade. But that wrong perception soon changed for the better. Hopefully I could go back to Cebu for Sinulog 2009. Go here for the rest of this article. In the meantime, here’s a great Sinulog video.

Awesome!
