The news came through the radio as I was driving back to the office yesterday, cursing the high temperature outside. It was after lunch and I was yet to take eat. The long drive, the hunger, the heat, everything resulted to a terrible headache. But somehow the pain seemed to disappear as the announcement sank in — Francis Magallona lost his fight with leukemia. (more…)

Preparing to Die

I recall that when I watched the last episode of CSI Las Vegas Season 6, I was struck my the statement of Grissom to the effect that he prefers having a cancer because he could prepare for his death and he could say goodbye to his loved ones. In contrast, of course, is the view that death should be more like a thief who sneaks in the night, in which case, you do away with the agony of watching your days run out. (more…)

Dangers in Motorcycling

Motorcycles. I love, and drive, motorcycles. It’s fun to feel the gust of wind against your face (that’s before the helmet requirement was strictly implemented, and before my wife banned me from driving one). The temptation to speed up and zigzag through traffic is always there. With a vehicle that twists and turns fast, reacting quickly to the driver’s tug, even a heavy traffic is a breeze. (more…)
