Practice Driving in Malabon

In the preceding post, we talked about floods in Malabon. I have learned all I know about driving through floods from the roads of Malabon. It’s not something that Malabon has much choice, though. Malabon is below sea level, so when even moderate rains coincide with high tide, you know what happens. Anyway, while we’re at it, let’s proceed to Malabon driving. (more…)

Road Discipline for Drivers and Passengers

Maintaining discipline on the road, both for passengers and drivers, is easier said than done. Sometimes you get to think which should come first: disciplined drivers or disciplined passengers. For instance, if drivers load and unload ONLY in designated places, and not anywhere they please (including in the middle of the road), perhaps passengers will be forced to wait and alight at the designated places (you’ll notice this, for instance, in Hongkong). On the other hand, if passengers wait only in designated bus/jeepney stops, then drivers would hopefully follow. To illustrate: (more…)

Dangers in Motorcycling

Motorcycles. I love, and drive, motorcycles. It’s fun to feel the gust of wind against your face (that’s before the helmet requirement was strictly implemented, and before my wife banned me from driving one). The temptation to speed up and zigzag through traffic is always there. With a vehicle that twists and turns fast, reacting quickly to the driver’s tug, even a heavy traffic is a breeze. (more…)
