The Meaning of Family (Ahem)

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008

First off, let’s get things straight — no, I didn’t write this one, and, in my defense, my wife made me post it =). If I sound defensive, you’ll know why when you get to the end of the – how to call it, poem? This is one of those emails currently going around and I’d be more than glad to attribute authorship if someone steps up.) (more…)

Helping Us Help You: Looking for the Perfect Gift

Wednesday, May 7th, 2008

I’m always thankful for the things that my wife had been helping me with. For instance, since I hate shopping, she helps me with my shopping chores, including hunting for the perfect gift. I guess men are simply no good in shopping and worse in looking for gifts. So imagine my relief when, as we were on our way home this evening, she told me that she found the perfect Mother’s Day gift (as you may already know, Mother’s Day is on May 11, which a few days from today). So, no shopping hassle for me. No time wasted in going around the mall. No energy spent in thinking about the perfect Mother’s Day gift — a lovely watch. For herself. (more…)

PinoyDad on Mother’s Day

Monday, May 5th, 2008

It’s hard to miss Mother’s Day, which is just around the corner (May 11, 2008), with all the posters, ads and merchandise everywhere, even this early. There’s no doubt that Mother’s Day is now highly commercialized, which is the reason why some disregard this day. They say that Mother’s Day, just like the day of love, should be every day. It could be celebrated without all the fuss and, of course, expenses. I bet many are already searching for the perfect mother’s day gift at this moment. (more…)

FAMILY

Tuesday, April 8th, 2008

First off, let’s get things straight — no, I didn’t write this one, and, in my defense, my wife made me post it.

If I sound defensive, you’ll know why when you get to the end of the — how to call it — poem? If you’re impatient to read the entire section without prior warning, here’s why: It’s mushy. This is one of those emails currently going around and I’d be more than glad to attribute authorship if someone steps up. (more…)

Ginintuang Payo ng mga Magulang

Thursday, April 3rd, 2008

Hinding-hindi ko makakalimutan ang mga mumunti ngunit Ginintuang butil ng payo na nakuha ko sa aking mga magulang:

Si Inay, tinuruan niya ako HOW TO APPRECIATE A JOB WELL DONE — “Kung kayong dalawa ay magpapatayan, doon kayo sa labas! Mga leche kayo, kalilinis ko lang ng bahay.”

Natuto ako ng RELIGION kay Itay — “Kapag yang mantsa di natanggal sa carpet, magdasal ka na!”

Kay Inay ako natuto ng LOGIC — “Kaya ganyan, dahil sinabi ko.”

At kay Inay pa rin ako natuto ng MORE LOGIC — “Kapag ikaw ay nalaglag diyan sa bubong, ako lang magisa ang manonood ng sine.” (more…)

What a Dad should Expect when his Significant Other is Expecting

Tuesday, March 25th, 2008

It’s only natural that when a father is expecting a baby, he reads books and materials written for fathers. This should be the ideal, even if the pregnancy is “suffered” by the significant other, who may not necessarily be a wife. On the other hand, reading a book or material written for expectant mothers is perfect because the dad gets to know not only about the baby on board, but also about what the mother is going through. Happiness of a Mother

Sunday, March 16th, 2008

My mother loved that Jollibee commercial years back, wherein a son, upon receivng his first salary, brought his mother to a local Jollibee branch and promised that next time, he will treat her at Jollibee-Hongkong.

If you come to think of it, starting at the middle of our socio-economic structure, there’s really nothing fancy about a treat at Jollibee, or any fast food restaurant for that matter. It’s even more “fancy” to accompany your mother in a leisurely evening walk along Baywalk, unless, of course, your mother is wearing a “Resign. Now Na!” shirt and goes by the name of “Dinky”.
