Reduced traffic with increase in gas prices?

Friday, July 11th, 2008

They say sleep is a refuge of the weary mind and the battered body. People say sleep is a source of comfort, but this seems to be no longer true. These days, you tend to say this as you hit the sack: “Darn, I forgot to gas up!” Everybody is now familiar that gas prices are usually higher when you wake up the next day (not that it matters anyway, because prices will still increase even if you don’t go to sleep).  When I went to the gas station last Sunday, the price was P2 higher than the Friday before that, or just a matter of two days. Overtaking ONLY at NLEX

Sunday, April 20th, 2008

I passed through the North Luzon Expressway or NLEX on my way back to Manila from Angeles, Pampanga. There’s no doubt that the NLEX is among the best roads or highways in the Philippines. You’ll notice many things if you’re passing through NLEX or NLE, some of which are the following: (more…)

Metro Guwapo: Bayani Fernando

Friday, April 18th, 2008

I heard over the radio that MMDA Chairman Bayani Fernando, probably better known as BF, is being criticized over his posters plastered in Metro Manila roads, including EDSA. Almost half of the poster (or shall we call it a streamer or tarpaulin?) contains the photo of BF, with arms folded and sporting his “tiger” look, wearing his signature pink shirt. I myself couldn’t quite get what he is trying to portray with that shot. It looks like he’s saying: “Isapuso ang batas” or something to that effect. I dunno, you be the judge. (more…)

MMDA on the Road: Things to Remember

Sunday, March 30th, 2008

Here’s an email that’s going around lately. It’s originally entitled “How you can challenge petty abuses of MMDA personnel…”

I just reached my limit last week-end, and decided to take action against the abusive MMDA enforcers. I basically called up the MMDA head office and inquired from the Personnel Officer, Antonio Pagulayan, to clarify their policies. Here is what I got. (more…)

Practice Driving in Malabon

Saturday, March 29th, 2008

In the preceding post, we talked about floods in Malabon. I have learned all I know about driving through floods from the roads of Malabon. It’s not something that Malabon has much choice, though. Malabon is below sea level, so when even moderate rains coincide with high tide, you know what happens. Anyway, while we’re at it, let’s proceed to Malabon driving. (more…)

EDSA traffic, Buses and the Yellow Lane

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Almost every Filipino knows EDSA, although not everyone may know that it’s a major thoroughfare in Metro Manila. It’s a road that is [in]famous and unique for many things. EDSA One, EDSA Dos, EDSA Tres and the additional (?) episodes that will rival the plot of Starwars. (more…)

Review of Regulations of Local Government Units concerning Public Transportation

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

It’s common knowledge that the use of separate traffic citation tickets, known as Ordinance Violation Receipts (OVR), has become a headache to motorists, including operators of public utility vehicles (PUV). This is among the matters noted in Executive Order No. 712, issued on 11 March 2008, which provides for the following: (more…)

What Flooded Roads?

Monday, March 24th, 2008

During a meeting in Makati City one morning, I was surprised that Chino Roces (formerly Pasong Tamo), among other streets, was flooded. Some cars were obviously hesitant to wade through the flooded roads, causing traffic build up. This hesitation is generally understandable, but not to us who are veterans of Malabon roads. To drive home the point, here’s a video I took some months back. (more…)

Maglakad sa Kalye, Huwag sa Sidewalk

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Papatupad Anti-Jaywalking. (Walk on the sidewalk, not on the street. Anti-jaywalking enforced.) Natuwa naman ako sa paskil. Mukhang seryoso sila na ipatupad ang batas-trapiko. Ngunit kahit pa may paskil na eto, tingnan nga natin kung ano talaga ang nangyayari: (more…)
