The Journey of Arnel Pineda

I don’t know Arnel Pineda or his band, Zoo, until one day, on a long drive weaving through heavy Metro Manila traffic on my way to a morning court hearing, an FM dj mentioned Arnel Pineda’s name and that he is the newest vocalist of the rock band Journey.

It’s a pleasant surprise to know that Arnel Pineda is another addition to Pinoy pride, specially in the field of music. Here’s what surprised me the most with what the dj said — Pineda sounds better than Steve Perry.

Perry, of course, is the original vocalist of Journey. I’m inclined to believe that Pineda sounds better than Perry, but I’m no music expert. So, I suggest you take a look at this clip (which was the video that led to the discovery of Pineda by Journey). You decide:

Now, there’s an ongoing debate, which has gone a bit ugly, about Pineda not being the best fit for a white rock group like the Journey. Everybody is entitled to an opinion. Good luck, Arnel!

I’m so proud Arnel Pineda is the lead singer for Journey. I love the way he sings Don’t Stop Believing.

He became my favorite filipino band lead singer here in Hong Kong since about 2004 when I first saw him at CAVERN, Lan Kwai Fung. I reckon, all races who gathered that place amazed about his powerful nice sounding voice. Since then when I saw other filipino band here in HK, I always compare their lead vocals to Arnel and all those years and I thought, no one still could surpassed his performance and voice quality.
I would not be surprised if other people regardless of race and place anywhere in the world could hear him sings and love his voice.
I’m so much proud of him.

    Rick

Filam/habat, very true, he is someone to be proud of. Good for you, you already saw him perform…I’m still waiting for a chance to see him perform live. Hopefully Journey will include the Philippines in their tour.

I saw and heard Arnel Pineda first on Ellen Degeneres tv show. I was amazed like Ellen at how good a singer he is. I waited for the release of his album with the Journey and bought it on the very first day it came out. Now I have become addicted to his songs especially NEVER WALK AWAY, AFTER ALL THESE YEARS, LIKE A SUNSHOWER and TURN DOWN THE WORLD TONIGHT. I am convinced Arnel sings better than Steve Perry.

Wow, he has a new album? Wonder if it’s already in the Philippines.
