The inauguration of the 15th President of the Republic of the Philippines, Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, is all set on June 30, 2010. The ceremonies start at around 11:00 a.m. at the Quirino Grandstand in Manila City, although roads in the area will be closed as early as 7 a.m. (more story here; read also inaugural speech).
We also know by now that June 30, 2010 (Wednesday) had been declared as a special non-working holiday through Proclamation No. 2085, which states that “it is fitting and proper that all citizens of our country be given full opportunity to witness and welcome this historic event in the life of the nation.”
The two words were not underscored in the original text, but I was curious just the same. Why is this a historic event?
Is it because Noynoy Aquino is the first Philippine President who is not married and not a father? He is not a PinoyDad. This is too trivial to be a good reason why this is historic.
Is it because even the present government of Pres. Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo recognized that the election of Noynoy is not because of any political party, but another manifestation of People Power, probably fueled by the death of the Saint of Democracy, former President Corazon “Cory” Aquino? Maybe.
Is it historic because it’s another battle between good and evil, with the good winning this time? Maybe.
Is it historic because of the sheer number of showbiz personalities involved during the inauguration? Hopefully not.
Is it historic because it represents a host of possibilities for growth? Our country is energized. We fathers see a good future for our country, our families and ourselves.
An inauguration, but itself, is not historic in my opinion. We expect this to happen on a regular basis as an integral part of the elections and our democracy.
An inauguration becomes historic for some reason. And I can’t put my finger on it. Perhaps you have an idea. Please share it through the comment section below.

God bless the Philippines and the new administration! PNoy’s rise to power is his destiny and God’s appointment! May God grant him the courage, strength and wisdom to overcome the colossal challenges ahead and lead the Philippines to success!
