Will you try your Luck in Gambling?

Just recently, a huge pay-out came the way of a 22-year-old college dropout from Denmark, Peter Eastgate. He vanquished opponents in the World Series of Poker, winning US$9.15 million. The second-placer, Ivan Demidov, got US5.8 million. Not too bad, huh?

The popularity of poker has been enormously pushed by the internet. The PAGCOR, who also operates the Philippine charity sweepstakes and the lotto, is now into online poker. There are tons of information and so many websites dealing with poker (see partypoker, pokerstars, pacificpoker, fultiltpoker and 888), even if the traditional casinos, especially those in Las Vegas, are severely affected by the current financial crisis.

As for me, gambling is just not my cup of tea. We could say business, love and lofe are forms of gambling, but I’m not talking about those. My parents prohibited me from playing mahjong for fun in the number of wakes for relatives that I’ve attended. That’s not even the reason why I don’t gamble — the hot hand seems to elude me when it comes to gambling, raffles, lotteries and anything that has to do with gambling. Or maybe I’m just convinced about my self-inflicted “bad luck” so I don’t place any bets, which means that my chances of winning greatly diminish.

Anyway, will you try your luck at gambling? Do you believe there’s more chances of doing well in business than earning a huge amount in gambling?
